Litterfall and mineral return in two cork - oak forests in northeast spain
Seasonal trends in littertall and potential mineral return were studied in two cork-oak forest sites in the northeastern Iberian peninsula. The estimated average litter production was 3.9 Mg.ha -1 .year for one site and 4.6 Mg.ha -1 .year for the other; these figures are similar to those reported for holm-oak (Quercus ilex) forests in the same area. Seasonal litterfall patterns were typical of ...

The Ecological Society of Japan 2007 2345678 19 20 Abstract Spatial heterogeneity of abiotic factors influ21 ences the structure and function of forests and must be 22 taken into account for their conservation and sustain23 able management. In this study, we evaluate the heter24 ogeneity of abiotic environmental variables in managed...
متن کاملPost-Fire Management of Cork Oak Forests
Cork oak ( Quercus suber L.) forests are def ned here as the range of habitats from open savanna-like woodland formations to dense forests. According to the European forest type’s nomenclature (EEA 2007 ) these ecosystems are included in the ‘broadleaved evergreen forest’ class and in the ‘Mediterranean e vergreen oak forest’ type. This forest type is dominated by the e vergreen sclerophyllous ...
متن کاملIdentification of GPAT acyltransferases in cork oak
Background Acyltransferases are enzymes with an important role in the synthesis of both cutin and suberin which are part of the lipophilic barriers, such as epidermis and periderm that protect terrestrial plants against water loss and other external aggressions. During secondary growth in woody plants such as cork oak (Quercus suber L.), the epidermis is replaced by a suberized periderm that in...
متن کاملLitterfall production and fine root dynamics in cool-temperate forests
Current understanding of litterfall and fine root dynamics in temperate forests is limited, even though these are the major contributors to carbon and nutrient cycling in the ecosystems. In this study, we investigated litterfall and fine root biomass and production in five deciduous and four coniferous forests at the Gwangneung Experimental Forest in Korea. We used ingrowth cores to measure fin...
